Daniel J. Mazikowski to Handle Special Effects for Painkiller

Maz

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Daniel J. Mazikowski (“Maz”) will be handling special effects makeup and creature fabrication for PAINKILLER. Why are we so thrilled? Just check out his work at https://www.facebook.com/Mazsylvania! It’s amazing!

Maz and PAINKILLER director Jeremiah Kipp have collaborated on several projects — including the feature THE SADIST starring FX legend Tom Savini! — and we’re confident that their experience together will help create some truly memorable moments in PAINKILLER.

Here’s his bio. Welcome to the team, Maz!

Daniel J. Mazikowski, a “Halloween Kid” from his earliest days who was always eager to decorate well in advance of the holiday or lead some hapless family member through the latest “spook house” he’d built in his bedroom, pegs his natural progression into SFX makeup as beginning around age 13 with a palm-sized blob of malleable wax. The “a-ha” moment of how it produced a rather convincing water blister, combined with his discovery of the iconic Dick Smith Monster Make-up kit released by Pressman Toys — all in the midst of the splatter-drenched creepfest of early-80’s horror cinema — began an exploration of prosthetic trickery that to this day shows no sign of abating.

Pursuing the craft off and on through the years (sometimes as a hobby, sometimes in the context of small productions of his own or of others, and of course in many a Halloween costume contest) eventually saw him ramping up into professional work during a ten-year stint in NYC — providing FX makeup and props for a number of shorts and student films [WHAT HAPPENED TO BRANSON’S EYE (2002), THE HORN MAN (2004), WARLORD (2005), THE ACCIDENT (2007)], music videos [Straylight Run’s “Big Shot (Hands In the Sky)” (2005), Damone’s “Out Here All Night” (2006), Sleepmask’s “Run” (2009)], and various feature films [THE MURDER GAME (2005), 20 YEARS AFTER (2006), DROWNING (2008)], with his most notable accomplishments coming together under the Scareflix banner of Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix [THE ROOST (2003), TRIGGER MAN (2006), I CAN SEE YOU (2006)] and for James Felix McKenney’s Monsterpants Films [AUTOMATONS (2005), SATAN HATES YOU (2008)].

It was during this time that Maz first worked with Jeremiah Kipp, who would in turn seek the contribution of his twisted visual style to the short film THE POD (2006) and again in CONTACT (2009) upon the eve of his departure from the greater NYC area. The survival of this working relationship beyond the distance, however, would soon lead to Maz being called back to join the fun on Jeremiah’s first feature THE SADIST (2014), which provided the invaluable opportunity to meet and work alongside legendary FX hero Tom Savini — an exciting completion of a twenty-plus-year loop for that kid goofing around with the wax.

Presently based in his home state of Alabama, Maz has continued to work in FX along with an expansion further into Art Department as well as some acting for various features [RAZOR DAYS (2012), HELL AND MR. FUDGE (2012), THE GHOST EXPERIMENT (post-production), REVELATION TRAIL (2013), SPACE WARRIORS] — and it’s with great admiration and gratitude that Maz finds himself called to the Kipp table once more to provide some essential shocks to the production of PAINKILLER.  An instinctive understanding of Jeremiah’s particular approach to body horror themes — with the fruit of past collaborations being very much informed by and often compared to the early work of David Cronenberg — ensures that his gears have been churning feverishly since his first exposure to the script, and he looks forward to helping to bring writer Jerry Janda‘s original concept to life for audiences far and wide.

PAINKILLER is now fully cast! We’re incredibly excited to announce that Jill Di Donato is bringing her talent and creativity to the film. We don’t want to reveal too much about her role, but, as one of PAINKILLER’s co-stars, she plays a pivotal part.
Here is her bio!
Jill Di Donato is a writer, columnist, professor, and performer in New York City. Her debut novel Beautiful Garbage (She Writes Press, 2013) about the 1980s downtown New York art scene was featured in VICE Magazine, Galore Magazine, Lipstick & Politics, was a Small Press Pick, and is available on Amazon. In collaboration with Jeremiah Kipp and Lauren Rayner Productions, Jill wrote and produced a book trailer for Beautiful Garbage that premiered at the New York Film Anthology Archives in May 2013. Her writing is concerned with sexuality, gender politics, the complexities of relationships, fashion and art, as well as her preoccupation with the beautiful macabre.
Her film credits include The Days God Slept, Aquelarre, The Gilgo Beach Murders, and she is a frequent collaborator with Codebreaker Productions. She appears on TV and radio as a cultural commentator and is currently working on a collection of essays called 52 Weeks of Sex, inspired by her column at the Huffington Post.

We’ve added another cast member! Thomas Mendolia will be playing the male lead in the film. We’re so happy to have someone so talented in this role.

Here’s Thomas’ bio.

Thomas Mendolia is a passionate actor who’s relatively new to the game.

Starting out on stage, Thomas is always looking for projects to help make new friends and to expand his acting vocabulary as well.

After moving to New York to pursue his dream, Thomas starred in SUNRISE APHRODITE, a short film by Frank Zhu; BAGGAGE, directed by Jeremiah Kipp and starring Rob Dimension; and PENELOPE, which he wrote and directed along with Patrick Ball. His stage credits in New York include: COMING HOME by Chris Raddatz, which played at the Dream Up Festival; JUNIOR by Philip Eggers, which played at the Manhattan Repertory Theater; and MACBETH by the Onomatopoeia Theater Company, which played at the Gene Frankel Theater.

Usually, Thomas plays mostly lighter characters with a sense of sensitivity and humor, but he is very interested in exploring his darker side. For that reason, he is excited to play the male lead in PAINKILLER.

We’re happy to announce that Adam Ginsberg has joined the PAINKILLER production team! He brings a great deal of experience in indie horror to the project, and the film will greatly benefit from his knowledge.

Here’s his bio.

Adam Ginsberg is a New York actor, producer, voice artist, and host. With varied experience ranging from advertising and marketing to filmmaking and event management, Adam has developed a keen sense of the business side of projects, while his passion for bringing characters to life, combined with his educational background (including schooling from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting), has allowed him to flourish in film, theatre, voice-over, and hosting.

Beginning his acting and producing career several years ago with the inception of his company TwitchTwitch Productions and a successful theatrical run of the company’s original theater productions, Adam progressed both on stage and off as he created new shows and productions, acted Off-Broadway, and kicked off his radio program “The POD of the Dead.” As a theatrical actor, he has performed on stages on Long Island as well as in New York City.

As Adam transitioned personally to film acting and producing, he also transitioned his company to large-scale events and ultimately film festivals. Co-founding and -producing The Macabre Faire Film Festival with his wife, Elsie, Adam and she have rocketed TwitchTwitch Productions to a very important position within the indie horror film community.

As a film actor, Adam has done a number of short and feature-length projects over the last few years. He recently played the lead role in 2013’s award-winning Western film “Prize,” as well as the Killer in “The Gilgo Beach Murders” feature film, which he also co-produced.

Adam has steadily found his way into quality projects with solid filmmakers, including work with award-winning producers and filmmakers Hakki Subentekin and Joe Tripician, with whom he acted for in various projects. To date, he has acted in more than 20 films and productions and produced several projects as well as short and feature-length films.

Rob Dimension Joins Painkiller as Producer

Rob_Dimension

We are honored to announce that Rob Dimension has joined the Painkiller crew as a producer!

Most of the cast and crew for Painkiller met while working on Rob’s fantastic short Baggage. Without Baggage, Painkiller would not be happening, and we are very excited that Rob has agreed to share his expertise, insight, and energy with our production.

Here’s Rob’s bio. His credentials speak for themselves!

Rob Dimension is an actor, writer, director, entertainer, and producer, as well as supporter of the independent filming community. Dimension got his first start in the entertainment industry in the early ’90s when he worked for the Warner Brothers Network, writing and producing TV commercials.

In 2001, Dimension began his 13-year career in the sport of professional wrestling, both behind and in front of the camera. Rob was a writer for a Pennsylvania-based wrestling company, one of the only companies to have live television. Dimension’s TV work has been featured in Japan and in France also. Dimension also was notorious for portraying “bad guys” and credits this for his future work. Professional wrestling allowed Rob to travel and learn character development.

In 2009, Dimension started a “horror hosting” television series titled “Late Night at the Horror Hotel.” Dimension wrote and starred in the series as well as handled the marketing, which had the show broadcast to over 24 markets in the United States, hosting some classic films.

In 2012, Dimension started writing his award-winning film NO CLOWNING AROUND. Dimension has been open and honest about his battle with depression and believes this film was a “win” and helped him take back his life. Dimension wrote, starred in, and co-directed the short. Because of this short, the character Mumbles the Clown has even made its way to comic books, being featured in The Living Corpse: Haunted book that saw national distribution in 2013.

In 2013, Dimension began his quest for writing his second award-winning film, BAGGAGE. BAGGAGE has been seen all over the United States and has been described by viewers and critics as “a Hitchcock-style film.” Dimension wrote and starred in this tribute to classic black-and-white, psychological horror-style drama. This film has been very well received. Dimension was also named “Independent Voice” award winner for his work within the community.

In 2014, Dimension has started work on his third film, RABBIT HOLE. Dimension has stated this film will mix a rougher style of filmmaking with a twist on classic storytelling. RABBIT HOLE is scheduled to film in April and will be released this August.
